Sentence Calculation
Ensuring that an incarcerated individual's term of confinement is calculated correctly is crucial for upholding justice and fairness within the legal system. A miscalculation can have significant consequences, affecting the duration of incarceration and the individual's rights and liberties. PRISM advocates for precision in sentencing calculations, striving to protect the rights of those in custody and promote transparency and integrity in the criminal justice process.

Incarcerated individuals are entitled to earn diminution credits (with certain exceptions) to reduce the lengths of their confinements. Correctional Services, § 3-701 et seq. specifies many different forms of credit, including good conduct credits, industrial credits, education credits, and special project credits. Assuming an incarcerated individual does not lose diminution credits as a result of a disciplinary infraction, the incarcerated individual can earn the right to be released on a date much sooner than that designated by his or her original term of confinement.
